What is the Harambee Learning Center?
The Harambee Learning Center was developed
by the Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action, Inc. (KISRA) in
September 1998. Harambee
is an after-school, safe and drug-free haven that is focused on preventing
the onset of adolescent problem behaviors in children that attend Kanawha

Harambee College Tour
Twenty nine Kanawha County
high school students spent three days of their Spring Break (April 18 - 20,
2006) in North Carolina exploring four colleges. The college tour was
sponsored by the Teen Achievers Program at KISRA's Harambee Learning Center.
Students visited University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), University of
North Carolina (Greensboro) North Carolina A&T University and Winston Salem
State University. According to Trae Robison, a student at South
Charleston High School, the trip was exciting and he obtained a lot of
information. Trae also liked the exposure to college life and he also
enjoyed the opportunity to see schools outside of West Virginia.
