KISRA to Launch Emergency Aid Project in Kanawha County
KISRA (Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action, Inc.), will launch an Emergency Aid Project to provide emergency needs services to low-income and working poor residents of Kanawha County. Eligible participants will receive assistance to overcome needs related to an emergency crisis situation related to utility assistance, rental payment, food insecurity or prescription medication needs. The Emergency Services Program has been made possible in part by a 2017 grant from The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
“Individuals and families are unable to reach their greatest potential as long as they are in a state of crisis,” said Reginald Jones, Chief Executive Officer of KISRA. “In order to begin to work toward the goal of lifting themselves out of poverty or successfully re-entering the community, a certain level of stabilization must be reached” Jones continued.
KISRA provides a vast array of services related to Health, Employment, Asset Development and Learning. Eligible program participants from one of KISRA’s programs who have experienced a life event that has caused disruption in the day-to-day functioning of his/her financial, emotional, mental, or physical abilities can now access emergency aid.
“Through KISRA’s robust services, we have seen a consistent need for emergency assistance, but have previously been limited by program guidelines to provide the support needed. Thanks to the generosity of The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, we will now be able to address those emergency needs while simultaneously providing services to help get participants on the path to long-term security” Jones concluded.
