KISRA has partnered with the WV Military Authority’s Patriot Guardens group and created a program to reach active military, veterans, military family members, minorities and youth who are interested in agricultural production as a source of income or a source of mental health and stress management. The grant is in its first year of implementation and as of the 6-month mark, the agriculture workshops served 104 participants and the business entrepreneurship classes have served 31 participants. New poultry farmers have been developed. Specifically, the program has reached 2 socially disadvantaged farmers/ranchers, 47 new and beginning farmers/ranchers, 14 veterans, and 25 undetermined socially disadvantaged groups.
