HCDC Teacher's Aide
JOB LOCATION: Harambee Child Development Center, Dunbar WV
The Teacher’s Aide plays an important role in the development of young children. The entire day is a learning opportunity, thus, even simple activities can be used to teach social, physical, emotional, and intellectual skills. The Teacher’s Aide makes a good first impression of KISRA to the public; provides excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate, supervise, and give direction to the classroom assistants
Prepare lesson plans and follow daily schedule of activities
Provide instruction to classroom assistants relative to the lesson plans
Asset Lead Teacher or the Director in center activities as requested
Practice Core Competencies of early childhood educators as outlined in WV Licensing Regulations (Appendix 78-1A)
Supervision, Care and Education of Children
Plan activities that reflect the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of all the children in the class; Foster creativity
Model appropriate social behavior
Keep records & meet with parents/Guardians to discuss the child’s progress & needs
Encourage children to learn at their own pace
Provide children with the opportunity to solve problems within their ability level
Closely monitor children’s play indoors and outdoors to maintain their safety at all times
Observe children and look for signs of emotional developmental problems. Discuss with Lead Teacher, Director and the child’s parents or guardians.
Present ideas and materials so that the children can learn comfortably in an informal environment.
Children and parent’s information shall not be shared with anyone outside of KISRA without their signed content Violation of this confidentiality can result in corrective action, up to and including termination per KISRA’s employee handbook policy.
RESOURCES AND METHODS:
Teacher’s Aide must be familiar with the following office equipment: copier, fax machine, shredder, and scanner.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
The Teacher’s Aide must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, The Teacher’s Aide must be able to multi-task and perform each duty satisfactorily.
The Teacher’s Aide reports to the Learning Division Director and Assistant Director.
Three month; semi-annual and annual reviews will be conducted by the Learning Division Director and Assistant Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A High School Diploma is required. One-year relevant work experience and one of the following additional qualifications:
CDA credentials and three hundred (300) hours of relevant work experience with young children or 12 college credits in an early care and education field and three (300) hours of relevant work experience with young children.
Total of two (2) year of relevant work experience
A registered Apprentice Certificate for Child Development Specialist or twenty-eight (28) credits, with at least nine (9) credit hours in early childhood education
WV Training Certificate in Early Care and Education (WVTCECE) or equivalent
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor(s).
